1. Overview of Concrete Vibrators
a. What is a Concrete Vibrator?
A concrete vibrator is a device used in construction to make concrete more compact and remove air bubbles trapped during pouring. The device usually has a vibrating head that is inserted into fresh concrete, generating vibrations that help distribute the concrete evenly and eliminate unwanted voids.
Concrete vibrators improve the quality of concrete structures, increase their strength and durability, and reduce the risk of air pockets in the finished product.
b. How a Concrete Vibrator Works
The principle of a concrete vibrator is based on creating vibrations to make concrete more compact and remove air bubbles. A concrete vibrator typically consists of a motor and a vibrating head.
- Motor: The motor provides the energy needed to generate vibrations. There are different types of motors, including electric, gasoline, or diesel, depending on the specific model.
- Vibrating Head: The head is the main part that contacts the concrete. It generates the necessary vibrations to evenly distribute the concrete and remove air bubbles. Vibrating heads are usually made of durable, wear-resistant materials to ensure effective and long-lasting operation.
When the vibrator is operating, the head is placed into fresh concrete. The vibrations cause the concrete particles to settle evenly and remove unwanted voids, ensuring a uniform and solid concrete surface.
c. Industries That Use Concrete Vibrators
Concrete vibrators are mainly used in the construction industry, especially when working with concrete. Common applications include:
- Residential construction: Used widely for building houses, bridges, roads, and other civil structures.
- Industrial construction: In large-scale industrial projects such as factories and cold storage, vibrators ensure the quality and durability of concrete.
- Infrastructure construction: For highways, bridges, and hydropower dams, concrete vibrators create solid and sustainable concrete surfaces.
- Transportation projects: For airports and railway stations, vibrators improve surface quality and strengthen concrete durability.
- Underground structures: In tunnels and other underground works, vibrators help ensure the concrete is compact and smooth.
2. Overview of Safety Training for Operating Concrete Vibrators
a. What is Labor Safety Training?
- Labor safety training for operating concrete vibrators equips workers with knowledge on preventing workplace accidents. Workers directly operating concrete vibrators fall into Group 3.
- Training helps workers identify and avoid hazards, reducing the risk of accidents during work.

b. Training Duration
Initial Safety Training:
- Total training hours are at least 24 hours, including testing time.
- 8 hours of theory on labor safety policies and regulations
- 8 hours of theory on basic occupational safety knowledge
- 4 hours of theory on specialized training content
- 2 hours of practical exercises on specialized training content
- 2 hours of final theory test
The training center will divide the hours into multiple sessions depending on the worker schedule, typically 6 sessions over 3 days if continuous attendance is possible.
Periodic Safety Training:
- Before the labor safety card expires, workers must attend periodic safety training, with a duration of at least 50% of the initial training time.
Note: The total duration of periodic safety training is at least 12 hours, including testing. After completing the training and passing the test, workers will have their labor safety card renewed.

d. Labor Safety Card
After completing the training and passing the test, workers will receive a labor safety card (commonly called Group 3 Safety Certificate).
The card displays information such as name, date of birth, job, and work environment, as well as training duration, red stamp, and signature confirming course completion.
According to Clause 2 of Article 24, Decree 44/2016/ND-CP, there are two cases:
- If the worker has an employment contract, the employer must stamp and sign the card after training completion and passing the test.
- If the worker is freelance or temporary without a contract, the training unit must stamp and sign the card after training completion and passing the test.

3. Hazards When Operating a Vibratory Rammer
Operating a vibratory rammer can involve several hazards, and operators must follow safety measures to minimize risks. Below are some common hazards when operating a vibratory rammer:
- Injury from vibration: Operators are often exposed to high levels of vibration. Prolonged exposure can cause musculoskeletal injuries, such as weakened muscles, back pain, and joint problems.
- Collision risk: The vibratory rammer is a large and heavy piece of equipment, posing a risk of collision with other objects in the work area, which can lead to accidents and injuries if safety rules are not followed.
- Electric shock risk: If the vibratory rammer uses electricity, there is a risk of electric shock if electrical components are not properly maintained and inspected.
- Explosion risk: In construction environments, explosive materials or flammable gases may exist. Using a vibratory rammer in such conditions requires caution to prevent explosions.
- Unsafe operation: Failure to follow safety rules while operating the vibratory rammer can result in serious accidents. Operators need proper training and must follow all safety instructions.
To minimize these hazards, it is important that operators and related personnel are fully trained in safety and comply with all safety rules when operating the vibratory rammer.
4. Occupational Accident Control Measures When Operating a Vibratory Rammer
To control occupational accidents when operating a vibratory rammer, there are several important safety measures that operators and nearby workers should follow. Here are some basic occupational accident control measures:
- Safety training: All personnel involved in operating a vibratory rammer should be trained in safety, including learning how to use the rammer, understanding safety symbols, and emergency response procedures.
- Use of protective equipment: Operators and nearby workers must wear full personal protective equipment such as helmets, safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes, and protective clothing.
- Periodic inspection of the rammer: The vibratory rammer should be inspected regularly to ensure it is operating safely and correctly. Components such as the ram head, vibration system, and control system need proper inspection and maintenance.
- Safe work area: Establish a safe work zone around the rammer to prevent collisions and reduce accident risks. This includes safety signs, restricted access, and clear warnings of potential hazards.
- Worker competency management: Ensure operators have sufficient experience and training to safely perform their tasks. Provide guidance and supervision for new workers.
- Work environment control: Avoid operating the rammer under hazardous conditions such as bad weather, explosive environments, or malfunctioning systems.
- Safe waste handling: If the rammer is used in waste handling, all safety rules must be followed to prevent pollution and fire/explosion hazards.
- Periodic inspection of the vibratory rammer should be conducted to detect safety issues such as wear, mechanical failure, or damage, reducing the risk of occupational accidents.
