1. Overview of Bottled Water
a. What is Bottled Water?
- Bottled water, also known as bottled purified water, is drinking water taken from natural, which is then bottled and distributed to the market for consumption. To be considered water, it must be sourced from natural originating from unpolluted underground or rainwater sources, and must be processed and bottled at a bottling factory that ensures hygiene and food safety. Bottled water is considered a clean, safe, and popular type of drinking water on the market.
- The bottled purified water industry in Vietnam has seen significant growth in recent years. According to the “Assessment of Vietnam’s Bottled Purified Drinking Water Market to 2021” report by market research company Euromonitor, the bottled purified water market in Vietnam has grown by about 10-15% in recent years and is expected to continue to grow in the future.
- However, the bottled purified water industry also faces many challenges such as counterfeit products and chemical abuse in manufacturing, fierce competition among businesses, difficulties in product quality management, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism and consumption sectors. To ensure consumer health, strict compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations and product quality control is necessary.
b. Types of machinery for bottled water manufacturing

b. Training duration
Initial safety training duration
- The total training duration is at least 24 hours, including the examination time.
- 8 hours of theoretical study on policies and laws regarding occupational safety and hygiene
- 8 hours of theoretical study on basic knowledge of occupational safety and hygiene
- 4 hours of theoretical study on specialized training content
- 2 hours of practical training on specialized training content
- 2 hours for the final theoretical test of the training course
The safety training center will divide the time into several training sessions depending on the time arrangement for employees. But generally, there will be 6 training sessions, and the course will last 3 days, provided that the manufacturing company can arrange continuous study time.
Periodic safety training duration
- Before the safety card expires, if the worker wants it re-issued, they must undergo a periodic occupational safety training course, with the periodic safety training duration being at least 50% of the initial safety training duration.
Explanation: The total duration of periodic occupational safety training is at least 12 hours, including the examination time. After completing the periodic training course and passing the test, the worker will be re-issued or have their safety card renewed.

- In the case where the employer and the employee have a labor contract with each other, the employer must sign, seal, and place an overlapping seal on the safety card for the group 3 trainee after they have completed the training course from the occupational safety training provider and passed the test.
- In the case of a freelance or seasonal worker who does not have a labor contract, the training provider must sign, seal, and place an overlapping seal on the safety card for the worker after they have completed the training course from the occupational safety training provider and passed the test.

3. Recognizing dangers in bottled water manufacturing
During the bottled purified bottled water manufacturing process, there are a number of dangers that need to be identified and controlled to ensure product safety and quality. Some of these dangers include:
- Machinery and equipment in the bottled purified water manufacturing process such as bottle washing machines, capping machines, and bottled water filters can be dangerous to workers if not operated correctly or maintained periodically.
- During the manufacturing process, purified bottled water may use chemicals such as lye, acid, and detergents to clean bottles and equipment. These chemicals can cause irritation, affecting workers’ skin, eyes, respiratory system, and digestive system.
- Electricity is a necessary source of energy for the manufacturing process. However, electrical equipment in the bottled purified bottled water factory can also be dangerous to workers if not installed and operated correctly.
- The purified bottled water manufacturing process requires the use of equipment that must operate at high temperatures, such as filters. Workers can be in danger if they are exposed to high temperatures for too long.
- Workers can face dangers from physical impacts such as collisions, cuts, and punctures from hitting objects during the manufacturing process.
4. Common occupational accidents in bottled water manufacturing
Common types of occupational accidents that occur during bottled purified bottled water manufacturing can include:
- Fire and explosion accidents: Because the purified bottled water manufacturing process often uses chemicals and gases, there is a risk of fire and explosion if safety procedures are not followed.
- Electrical accidents: High voltage electricity is used in the manufacturing process, so not complying with electrical safety regulations can lead to electrical-related accidents.
- Collision accidents: Because the manufacturing process often uses large machinery and equipment, there is a risk of collisions, being hit by vehicles, or falling heavy objects if safety procedures are not followed correctly.
- Toxic accidents: Chemicals and toxic substances used in the manufacturing process can be harmful to workers’ health if safety procedures and measures are not followed correctly.
- Temperature accidents: The manufacturing of purified bottled water often involves heating and cooling processes, so there is a risk of temperature-related accidents if safety procedures and measures are not followed.
5. Safety measures when participating in bottled water manufacturing
The safety measures when participating in bottled water manufacturing are as follows:
- Full provision of personal protective equipment: Such as helmets, safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes, protective clothing, face masks, and hearing protection devices.
- Occupational safety training and education for workers on safety procedures: Workers must be trained on how to use equipment, equipment repair skills, accident prevention measures, and how to handle incidents.
- Ensuring food safety and hygiene: Bottled water manufacturing factories must ensure food safety and hygiene by maintaining cleanliness during the manufacturing process and ensuring that safe raw materials and other materials are used.
- Safe control of manufacturing machinery: Ensure that machinery operates normally and is maintained periodically to minimize accident risks.
- Strictly supervising the manufacturing process: The bottled water manufacturing processes need to be strictly supervised to ensure that products meet quality and safety standards.
- Periodically checking manufacturing equipment and machinery: Manufacturing equipment and machinery need to be checked periodically to detect and repair technical faults.
- Ensuring workplace safety: Manufacturing areas and warehouses must be kept safe to prevent accidents from breaking or falling goods.
- Applying standard manufacturing procedures: Ensure that the bottled water manufacturing process complies with the regulations of competent authorities and meets quality standards.
- Periodically organize work environment monitoring in factories and businesses, collect and analyze harmful factors for workers, and then adjust to reduce the level of harm to prevent occupational diseases for them.
