Man had both arms severed in Lam Dong on July 5, 2019

An unfortunate workplace accident occurred at a food processing factory when a male worker was seriously injured during his work. The accident happened while the worker was working next to a rice dryer, and suddenly a hard foreign object was sucked into the machine, severing both of his hands and crushing the muscles in both forearms. Rescue personnel arrived immediately and transferred the worker to a nearby hospital for treatment. Currently, he is receiving intensive care and treatment to recover his health. The company is cooperating with authorities to investigate the cause of the accident and implement preventive measures for future workplace accidents.

On the afternoon of July 5th, Sa Đéc General Hospital (Đồng Tháp) reported that the hospital is treating patient Lê Thành Bảy (49 years old, residing in An Phú Hamlet, An Nhơn Commune, Châu Thành District, Đồng Tháp Province), who suffered a workplace accident resulting in the severing of both hands and crushing of the forearm muscles on both sides.

Earlier, around 9 a.m. on July 3rd, Mr. Bảy was admitted to the hospital in severe shock, having both hands severed and one-third of the forearm muscles on both sides crushed.

Mr. Bảy was injured while working at a food company in Ward 2, Sa Đéc City, Đồng Tháp. Due to carelessness, both of his hands got caught in the rotating shaft of the rice dryer in operation, resulting in the crushing and severing of both hands.

According to Dr. Lê Trọng Tuấn, Deputy Director of Sa Đéc General Hospital (who directly participated in the surgical team), when admitted, the patient was in shock due to massive blood loss. Both hands were crushed, so the hospital immediately mobilized two surgical teams to perform emergency care, stop the bleeding, and carry out amputation surgery to create one-third transradial stumps on both forearms.

Regarding the incident, Thanh Niên newspaper reported that Mr. Bảy’s physical health has basically recovered after treatment, but he continues to suffer severe psychological trauma due to losing both arms simultaneously.

It is known that Mr. Bảy’s family had just been recognized as having escaped poverty in early 2019 when he suffered the workplace accident.

His family consists of four members: he is the main breadwinner, his wife helps run a small eatery, their younger child (14 years old) is attending middle school, and their older child has already started a family of their own.
