• Currently, the watch manufacturing industry in Vietnam is developing quite strongly with the emergence of many Vietnamese watch brands, from traditional brands to newly emerging brands. However, the watch manufacturing industry in Vietnam is still relatively small and not yet truly competitive with famous watches worldwide.
• According to statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in 2020, watch manufacturing in Vietnam reached about 6 million units, an increase of 13% compared to 2019. However, this output is still insufficient to meet domestic demand as well as export needs.

b. Watch manufacturing machinery

The machinery used in watch manufacturing includes:

• Watch component manufacturing machines: These machines are used to produce small watch components such as springs, gears, hands, etc.
• Watch case manufacturing machines: These machines are used to process and shape watch cases from materials such as stainless steel, titanium, gold, silver, etc.

a. What is Group 3 occupational safety training?

• Group 3 occupational safety training consists of sessions that equip workers with awareness on preventing occupational accidents.
• The training course helps workers recognize and avoid hazards, minimizing risks of accidents during work.

b. Training duration

Initial occupational safety training

• Total training time is at least 24 hours, including examination time.
• 8 hours of theory on safety policies and labor hygiene laws
• 8 hours of theory on basic occupational safety and hygiene knowledge
• 4 hours of theory on specialized training content
• 2 hours of practice on specialized training content
• 2 hours of theoretical exam at the end of the training

The training center will distribute the time across multiple sessions depending on employee schedules. Typically, there are 6 sessions, and the course lasts 3 days, provided the manufacturing business can arrange continuous training.

Periodic occupational safety training

• Before the occupational safety card expires, workers who wish to renew must attend periodic occupational safety training, with periodic training duration of at least 50% of the initial training duration.

Explanation: Total periodic occupational safety training lasts at least 12 hours, including examination. After completing the course and passing the exam, workers will be reissued or renewed the occupational safety card.

d. Occupational safety card

After completing the occupational safety training and passing the exam, workers will be issued a Group 3 occupational safety card (commonly referred to as Group 3 occupational safety certificate).

The Group 3 safety card shows details such as full name, date of birth, job, and working environment. It also includes training duration, red stamp, and signature confirming completion.

According to regulations in Clause 2 of Article 24, Decree 44/2016/ND-CP, there are two cases:

• If the employer and employee have a labor contract, the employer must sign, stamp, and endorse the safety card for Group 3 workers after completing the training and passing the exam from the occupational safety training unit.
• If the worker is freelance or seasonal, without a labor contract, the training unit must sign, stamp, and endorse the safety card after completing training and passing the exam.
