1. Overview of Trucks
a. What is a truck?
A truck is a type of motor vehicle designed to transport goods, carry special loads, or perform other useful tasks. Trucks come in various sizes, power ratings, and structures, typically built with a body-frame structure and a cabin separate from the cargo area.
Trucks are an important means of transportation, used in many fields including freight transport, construction, and agriculture.
Trucks play a crucial role in the economy.
b. How trucks work
The truck engine is an internal combustion engine that burns fuel to generate energy. There are various types of internal combustion engines, including diesel engines, gasoline engines, natural gas engines, and hybrid engines.
Drivetrain
The truck drivetrain transfers energy from the engine to the wheels. The drivetrain includes the following components:
- Gearbox: The gearbox converts the engine’s speed to match the vehicle’s travel speed.
- Belt or drive shaft: Transfers power from the gearbox to the axle.
- Axle: Transfers power to the wheels.
Truck operation
When the driver presses the accelerator pedal, the engine starts operating. The engine generates energy and transfers it to the gearbox. The gearbox converts the engine speed into a speed suitable for vehicle movement. The belt or drive shaft transfers power from the gearbox to the axle. The axle then transfers power to the wheels, making the truck move.
In addition to the two main systems, trucks have other auxiliary systems, including:
- Braking system: Helps the vehicle stop.
- Suspension system: Reduces shocks and provides comfort for the driver and passengers.
- Steering system: Allows the driver to control the vehicle’s direction.
- Electrical system: Provides power to the vehicle’s electrical devices.
c. Industries using trucks
Trucks are used in various industries, including:
- Automotive manufacturing: Trucks transport auto parts from factories to dealerships and distributors.
- Food and beverage production: Trucks transport raw materials and finished products from factories to retail stores.
- Chemical and construction material manufacturing: Trucks transport raw materials and finished products from factories to construction sites.
- Machinery and equipment manufacturing: Trucks transport machinery and equipment from factories to customers.
- Consumer goods manufacturing: Trucks transport goods from factories to retail stores.
Here are specific examples of truck usage in manufacturing:
- In automotive manufacturing, trucks transport parts such as car bodies, engines, and gearboxes from suppliers to factories. They also transport completed vehicles from factories to dealerships and distributors.
- In food and beverage production, trucks transport raw materials like fruits, vegetables, and meat from farms to processing plants, and deliver finished products such as bread, milk, and beverages to retail stores.
- In chemical and construction material manufacturing, trucks transport raw materials like coal, oil, and cement from mines to factories, and deliver finished products such as paint, cement, and steel to construction sites.
- In machinery and equipment manufacturing, trucks transport machinery and equipment from factories to contractors and clients.
- In consumer goods manufacturing, trucks transport items like clothing, electronics, and toys from factories to retail stores.
Trucks are a vital part of the supply chain in manufacturing, enabling the efficient and cost-effective transport of raw materials and finished products.
2. Overview of Occupational Safety Training for Truck Operation
a. What is occupational safety training?
- Occupational safety training for truck operation consists of courses that raise awareness of workplace accident prevention. Workers who directly operate trucks belong to Group 3.
- The training helps workers identify and avoid hazards, reducing the risk of workplace accidents.

b. Training duration
Initial safety training
- Total training time must be at least 24 hours, including test time.
- 8 hours of theory on policies, laws on occupational safety and hygiene
- 8 hours of theory on basic knowledge of occupational safety and hygiene
- 4 hours of theory on specialized training content
- 2 hours of practical training on specialized content
- 2 hours of theory test at the end of the course
The training center schedules multiple sessions depending on worker availability. Typically, there are 6 sessions over 3 days, provided the company can arrange continuous study time.
Periodic safety training
- Before the occupational safety card expires, workers wishing to renew must complete periodic occupational safety training, with periodic training time being at least 50% of the initial training duration.
Explanation: total periodic training must be at least 12 hours, including test time. After completion and passing the test, the worker’s occupational safety card is renewed.

d. Occupational safety card
After completing the occupational safety training and passing the test, workers will be issued an occupational safety card (commonly called Group 3 safety certificate).
The Group 3 card shows personal information (name, date of birth, job, working environment), training duration, and official stamps/signatures confirming course completion.
According to Clause 2, Article 24 of Decree 44/2016/ND-CP, there are two cases:
- If the employer and employee have a labor contract, the employer must stamp and sign the safety card after the employee completes Group 3 training and passes the test.
- If the worker is freelance or seasonal with no labor contract, the training unit must stamp and sign the safety card after the worker completes the course and passes the test.
